Step One: Publicly declare you are writing a book.
I AM WRITING A BOOK!!
Step Two: Print out your previous attempts.
WHAT'S THAT NOISE? WHO IS PRINTING ALL THAT?
UPDATE: I have written too much to print. I have so many previous "starts" to writing a book that I even astounded myself. So I am adding another sub step.
SUBSET of Step Two: Go down the wormhole of previous attempts and make a list of the inventory of unfinished attempts. Tell yourself, "I am glad I actually wrote this stuff. Then remind yourself...that..." you are NOT a loser, you are just a winner that has not won yet." Note that the last quote was created from a six year old when I was visiting a school. Kids are wise.
Step Three: Create a project binder.
OUCH! BINDER RING MADNESSUPDATE: I think my binder might need to be digital, though lots of paper in a binder would feed the ego and I am hungry these days!!!
Stay Tuned...this ride will get crazy and likely funny as I attempt to finish. If you are also trying to finish something...please read this book by Jon Acuff...aptly titled FINISH: Give Yourself the Gift of Done!
If you are reading this, know that I am writing for myself, for the first time in a long time.
